PRESS RELEASE: GAMJOBS TO SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL TRAINING IN CULTURE (PERFORMING ARTS) ![]() PRESS RELEASE GAMJOBS TO SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL TRAINING IN CULTURE The Gambia Priority Employment Programme (GAMJOBS),the GAMBIA GOVERNMENT 's attempt to operationalize the National Employment Policy and National Employment Action Plan, in response to increasing unemployment and poverty in The Gambia, particularly among women and youth. The overall objective of GAMJOBS is to create an enabling environment for employment creation in order to develop a skilled, versatile and efficient workforce, thereby creating opportunities for wage and self -employment in both formal and informal economy. Gamj obs in an effort to broaden the employment parameters to include culture as an economically viable profession is supporting intensive training in the performing arts. Talented youths between the ages of 18-30 years are invited to audition for a nine months training programme on African and modern dance, drama an production techniques, speech, traditional mus marketing, management among other releva skills. The training is designed to equip them with skills to secure jobs in the education, tourism, radio, television and entertainment sectors. Auditions will be held at the Ebunjan Theatre located opposite the Gambia Football Association House, at the Kanifing Institutional Area on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 January 2012 at 4p.m prompt. Those who wish to audition should prepare a short poem, a short speech on any topic, or lines from a play, a dance, a combination of speech and dance, a musical piece on drums, Kora, balaphone or flute, which they will present before a panel of performing arts professionals and Gamjobs officials. This training course which will be implemented by the Ebunjan Theatre Troupe is the second programme to develop the talents of Gambian Youths, interested in securing employment in the entertainment sector and creative industry. The minimum educational requirement is the Secondary School Leaving Certificate. Application forms are available at the Box Office of the Theatre from 5-6pm Monday to Friday. Please note that the training will be conducted six days a week between the hours of10 am -5pm. Therefore those in full time employment need not apply.
