WAG President's condolence message to Hassoum Ceesay (Jr)
africa » gambia » city of banjul
Tuesday, May 25, 2010
Hassoum, on behalf of the entire Executive Committee and members of the Writers' Association of The Gambia (WAG), I extend profound condolences on the passing away of your brother, the news of whose death I have read, just this moment. May God receive his poetic soul and grant him eternal repose!

I remember with great respect, his poetic genius in the electronic media, during that formative era, when he worked as a member of the then Gambia Airways staff. I recall also his quiet charm and modesty, which acted as a foil for his literary talents. In the name of the WAG, I salute his leadership and courage in pioneering publication of what, at that time, were small but appreciated drops, which have now swollen into the growing ocean of Gambian literature.

In the shadow of his mentoring, I pray that God wiould continue to endow Gambian writers with the creativity to sustain them along the trail, which has been so ably blazed by the late Hassoun Ceesay, senior.

Ralphina de Almeida

Inaugural President,

Writers' Association of The Gambia
