I have taught for 8 years at the University of The Gambia where I was also the Managing Editor of the UTG Focus Magazine and the coordinator of the French and UNESCO clubs. I was given the responsibility to head the French Department shortly before I left in 2010. I hold a PhD (Doctorat) in Comparative Literature with the University of Limoges, France. I also obtained my Bachelor of Arts Degree (B.A) in English with the Saint Mary’s University, Halifax, Canada through the Gambia Extension Programme and both a Maîtrise-ès-Lettres in Semiology and a Master II in Comparative Literature both with the University of Limoges in France. I started teaching in 1987 and have taught in several prestigious schools both private and government in The Gambia. In the course of my research, I travelled to several countries (France, Senegal, Switzerland and the United States of America) to present papers on different issues ranging from African literature, sociology of education and comparative literature. I have equally contributed immensely in several publications. Several of my articles have provoked intellectual discourse on issues ranging from literary production in The Gambia, a review of the curriculum and other issues relating to the Gambian system of education. I am subscribed to the African Literature Association (ALA), the Modern Language Association (MLA), the International Society for Oral Literatures in Africa (ISOLA) and the Writers’ Association of The Gambia (WAG). I speak and write both English and French fluently. I sometimes work as a freelance interpreter/translator. I represented The Gambia National Commission for UNESCO in several conferences on Culture and Education both in Dakar and Algiers as an Education and a Cultural specialist. I was the founder of the UNESCO Club at the University of The Gambia. I also helped pioneered the revival of the Writers’ Association of The Gambia (WAG) and The Gambia Music Association (GAMMA). I was later appointed as Programme Officer at The Gambia National Commission for UNESCO where I was responsible for activities related to Higher Education, Culture, Research, and Technical and Vocational Education and Training. I presently work as Counsellor tasked to manage the Permanent Delegation of The Gambia to UNESCO. |
